WHICH SAINT IS WHICH?

San Roque (Item No. ST-002) - Saint of Healing, Protector from Infectious Diseases, always shown with the faithful dog who saved his life.

St. Isidore (Item Nos. ST-003, ST-010, ST-015) - Patron Saint of Farmworkers, Gardeners, day laborers, and rural communities; Patron Saint of Spain.  He loved animals, and once fed starving birds from a bag of seed which miraculously kept refilling.  His employer once went to check up on his devout farm laborer, to find St. Isidore in prayer under a tree, while angels and white oxen ploughed the fields for him. Shown holding a shovel.

St. Wendel (Item No. 004) -  Son of a 7th Century Scottish King, he became a humble sheepherder (shown carrying a lamb); patron of peasants and sheepherders; renowned for his veterinary skills.

San Rafael (Item No. 017) - One of the 5 Archangels; performs all manner of healing; patron saint of medical workers.  He is shown with a fish, which he commanded Tobias to catch and use to cure his blindness.

St. Francis (Item Nos. ST-009 and ST-013) - Italian-born 12th century; patron saint of animals and of the environment; shown holding a bird in his palm.  He founded the Franciscan Order of monks.

St. Michael (Item No.  ST-018) - One of the 5 Archangels, he is the Prince of Light who led the forces of God against the darkness of evil; patron saint of warriors and protector of the sick.  Shown with a raised and dragons at his feet.  (Often confused with St. George; the difference:  George is always on a horse; St. Michael never is.)

Not Quite a Saint...Dom Perignon (Item Nos. ST- 006, ST-016, ST-017), after which the famous French vintage Champagne is named, was a Benedictine monk famed for his contributions to the production and quality of Champagne wine.
